Newsletters from the Sierra Madre # 44
March, 2001

This newsletter is devoted to "PHA2000," the first international event of the People's Health Assembly, which took place in Bangladesh in December, 2000. Activists from nearly 100 lands testified to how the health of people and the environment is suffering due to global policies that put corporate profits before basic needs. A People's Charter for Health was endorsed to help mobilize people throughout the world in the struggle toward a fairer, healthier, more sustainable social order.

Here you will not find a meeting report, but rather a critical look at what we can learn from PHA2000--its strengths and its weaknesses--in hopes of achieving a dynamic way forward and facilitating even better events for global solidarity in the future.

CONTENTS:

LIBERATION FROM WHAT? A Critical Reflection on the People's Health Assembly, 2000 (PHA2000), by David Werner and David Sanders

Organizational Lessons Learned from the PHA2000

PEOPLE'S CHARTER FOR HEALTH As amended and approved at the People’s Health Assembly, Savar, Bangladesh, December 2000

You can also download a printable version of Newsletter #44 in Adobe PDF format, as well as a printable version of the People's Charter for Health.
